The inclusion of Universidad ORT Uruguay the Times Higher Education Latin America University Rankings marks the addition of a new country to this prestigious list. Until last year, the list included 12 countries in the Americas; with this new edition, that number has risen to 13, thanks to the inclusion of Uruguay.
Times Higher Education is a British publication that covers news and topics related to higher education. Its ranking, considered one of the largest and most comprehensive in the world, is audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers and is regarded as a benchmark by students, faculty, governments, and industry experts.
Universidad ORT Uruguay 103rd out of 166 and is among the top 15 in the region in terms of “international outlook,” an indicator that takes into account transnational collaboration, exchange agreements (which allow the university to host international students and send local students to study abroad), and the recruitment of international faculty.
This time, the prestigious ranking is led by the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Brazil is the country with the most universities in the ranking, followed by Chile and Colombia.
This renowned ranking evaluates several factors. First and foremost, to be included, an institution must have a significant volume of research that has been published internationally. The primary factor evaluated is the number of published research articles and their citations; the ranking also takes into account teaching data, the opinions of selected academics, internationalization, and industry engagement.
Universidad ORT Uruguay working consistently in these areas, and this serves as recognition of that work and the contributions it has made. It also reflects a recognition of the value of research in Uruguay and brings greater visibility to our country within the academic community.
