July 13, 2023
Universidad ORT Uruguay once again recognized in the ranking of the best universities in Latin America and the Caribbean published by Times Higher Education (THE) in 2023.
Top Universities in Latin America

This is the fourth consecutive year that the prestigious British publication has included ORT as the sole representative of our country on this list.

In 2020, ORT’s inclusion in THE’s Latin America University Rankings marked Uruguay’s first appearance on the list, which evaluates universities across all their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.

The 2023 ranking, which includes 197 institutions from 15 countries, is led by:

  1. Pontifical Catholic University of Chile
  2. University of São Paulo (Brazil)
  3. University of Campinas (Brazil)
  4. Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico)

Brazil is the country with the most institutions in the ranking, with 65; 14 of these are in the top 20. Colombia has surpassed Chile as the second-most represented country overall, with 36 universities ranked, compared to 29 last year. Chile follows with 32 institutions, while Mexico has 24.

“These results are a testament to the growth and development of higher education institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean,” notes Times Higher Education on its website.

“As universities in the region continue to improve in teaching, research, and knowledge transfer, we are likely to see even greater representation and diversity in future rankings,” he adds.
