February 17, 2010
Dr. Denise Vaillant, Professor of Educational Policy in the School of Administration and Social Sciences and Coordinator of the GTD-PREAL, in collaboration with Prof. Carlos Marcelo, Professor in the Department of Educational Pedagogy and Organization at the School of Education Sciences of the University of Seville, published the book “Teacher Professional Development. How Does One Learn to Teach?”, published by Narcea, Barcelona. On February 26, she presented the book in the Auditorium Hall at the University of Buenos Aires.

Based on the experiences analyzed in this book, both in OECD countries and in Latin America, and despite the wide variety of contexts, a number of factors can be identified that have a positive impact on teacher professional development. The study concludes that sound policies are necessary to ensure that teacher professional development equips teachers with the competencies they will need throughout their long careers. Society needs good teachers, whose professional practice meets high professional standards and who, above all, fulfill a fundamental commitment: to respect students’ right to learn.
