Building on an understanding of various surfaces (paraboloid, hyperbolic paraboloid, single- and double-sheeted hyperboloids, and ellipsoid), a design process begins that offers complete freedom in programmes function, aiming to help students become familiar with these surfaces while exploring their possibilities and their expressive and functional potential. Subsequently, they approach the subject from the field of mathematics, deriving the equations that describe the designed surfaces.
