Lecture: “Protests and Social Media: Is the Revolution Being Tweeted, or Is It Happening on Twitter?”

On June 14, 2012, the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences hosted the lecture “Protests and Online Social Networks: Is the Revolution Tweeted, or Does the Revolution Happen on Twitter?” was held at the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Mireia Fernández-Ardèvol, associate professor in the Department of Econometrics, Statistics, and Spanish Economy at the University of Barcelona and co-director of the research program “Mobile Communication, Economy, and Society” at the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3) of the Open University of Catalonia. It was organized by the faculty’s Department of International Studies.

The speaker examined the role of ICT (information and communication technologies) in relation to current social movements, focusing on their importance in today’s society and the major events of 2011.

Dr. Fernández-Ardèvol holds a Ph.D. in Economics, a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Barcelona.
