Teacher Training Course:“The Shoah: The Human Condition and Memory”

On July 30, 2012, the third edition of the teacher training course “The Shoah: The Human Condition and Memory” began at ORT Centro, aimed at teachers in the National Secondary Education system as well as educators in non-formal education settings. The course aims to introduce teachers to key aspects of teaching the Shoah (the Jewish Holocaust) and related concepts (human rights, genocide, memory) in a formal educational setting. The program is organized by the Department of Jewish Studies.

The course, which takes place from July 30 to August 20 on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., was designated as being of “Ministerial Interest” by the National Directorate of Human Rights of the Ministry of Education and Culture. It also has the support of the Secondary Education Council, which approved file 6419/12, in which the Human Rights Inspectorate “considers it appropriate for new generations to learn about, remember, and analyze these events, given that the right to memory of peoples has been enshrined as part of Human Rights Education.”

- In-depth seminar: Janusz Korczak. The reformer of the world. Dr. Edyta Kwiatkowska Farys, Cultural Attaché at the Polish Embassy in Buenos Aires.
- Optional. Guided tour of the Montevideo Holocaust Memorial Center Museum. (Canelones 1084). Date and time to be confirmed.

The course is free of charge for participants, but prior registration is required, with a maximum capacity of 40 spots. The course is considered passed with attendance of more than 75% of the classes (10 out of 14 hours). Passing the course will result in the issuance of the corresponding certificate.
