Lecture: “The Jewish Calendar: Tradition and Evolution of a Civilization. Sukkot”

On September 27, 2012, ORT Pocitos hosted the lecture “The Jewish Calendar: Tradition and Evolution of a Civilization. Sukkot,” presented by Rafael Winter, a professor in the Jewish Studies Department at the Escuela Integral Hebreo Uruguaya-Instituto Ariel Hebreo Uruguayo and vice president of the Montevideo Holocaust Memorial Center. On this occasion, Mr. Winter spoke about Sukkot (the Feast of Tabernacles), the seventh lecture in a series on the festivals and commemorations of the Jewish calendar organized by the Department of Jewish Studies.

Prof. Winter holds a Master’s degree in Contemporary Judaism from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, with a specialization in Jewish Education for the Diaspora from the university’s Melton Center. He is a member of the Jewish-Christian Fellowship of Uruguay and a regular columnist for the Semanario Hebreo and the Mensuario Identidad. He served as coordinator and instructor in the Jewish Studies Department at the Ariel Hebrew Institute of Uruguay.
