ANII approved projects submitted by biotechnology faculty members

In December 2013, the Energy Sector Fund of the ANII (National Agency for Research and Innovation) approved two projects proposed by biotechnology faculty members, which will be carried out from February 2014 to February 2016 at the Biotechnology Laboratory.

Projects:

- “Immobilization and stabilization of lipases for the synthesis of biodiesel from rapeseed oil” by Dr. Lorena Betancor, Research Professor of Biotechnology at the School of Engineering (principal investigator), Dr. Ángela Cabezas, faculty member of Project 2 Laboratory; Mariana Ferrari, Coordinator of the Biotechnology Laboratory; Erienne Jackson, Research Assistant at the same laboratory; and Carlos Sanguinetti, Academic Coordinator of Biotechnology.

- “Generating electricity from Uruguayan soils and sediments using microbial fuel cells,” by Dr. Cabezas, presented in collaboration with the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of the Republic.
