First graduate of the Doctor of Education program

On November 21, 2016, the defense of the first dissertation, titled *Teachers’ iTIC Journeys: Educators Exploring Technological Territories*, took place as part of the Doctor of Education program. Prof. Wellington Mazzotti, a graduate of the Master’s in Education program and a professor and graduate advisor at the Institute of Education, is the first graduate of this doctoral program.

Mr. Mazzotti is the former high school principal of the Uruguayan Institute of Pre-University Studies (Iudep).

The panel included Dr. Paula Pogré, a research professor at the National University of General Sarmiento in Argentina, and Dr. Beatrice Avalos, who served as a mentor; she is a professor of history and geography at the Catholic University of Chile and a visiting professor at the Institute of Education.

Avalos holds a Ph.D. in Education, Philosophy, and History from Saint Louis University in the United States. She is a research associate at the Center for Advanced Research in Education (CIAE) at the University of Chile. She is the director of the Millennium Nucleus, The Teaching Profession in Chile: Policies, Practices, and Projections, funded by the Millennium Science Initiative. She was the coordinator of Programme Strengthening Initial Teacher Education at the Chilean Ministry of Education.
