On October 6, the talk “Bioalternatives to the Energy Matrix” took place at the ORT Centro Auditorium, presented by Dr. Liliana Borzacconi, Councilman Arisbel Ambrossi, and Engineer Nelson Segovia. The speakers discussed the role of biotechnology in generating energy from biological resources. The event is part of the Biotechnology Lecture Series, organized in conjunction with the launch of the Bachelor’s Degree in Biotechnology.
Liliana Borzacconi holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering. She is President of CONICYT (National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research). She is a full professor at the School of Engineering at the University of the Republic and a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
Arisbel Ambrossi is a Certified Public Accountant with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. For 15 years, he has managed international financial software projects for stock exchanges, and for the past three years, he has focused on sweet sorghum ethanol.
Nelson Segovia is a mechanical engineer from the Naval Academy. For 9 years, he has served as a manager at Aborgama Uruguay, and since 2003, he has also been Project Manager at Aborgama do Brasil.
The purpose of the biotechnology talks is to help foster a positive perception of biotechnology in Uruguay and to spark curiosity about new technologies and their applications.
