On Wednesday, September 1, the lecture “Preserving the Environment: A Contribution from the World Trade Organization,” presented by Ambassador Guillermo Valles Galmés, took place in the Auditorium of the School of Administration and Social Sciences. The event was organized by the Department of International Studies.
Ambassador Valles is a career diplomat. He has served as Ambassador of the Republic on several occasions, including to the People’s Republic of China (1988–1992), to the European Commission and the European Council of Ministers (1996–2000), and as Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization (2004–2010). He served as Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2000 to 2004. He has been decorated on numerous occasions by the governments of Brazil, Chile, Italy, and Paraguay, and recently received the Leader for a Living Planet Award from the World Wide Fund for Nature for his contribution to improving the multilateral trading system and reforming the economic foundations of sustainable fisheries.
