The app proposed by Preciozzi will provide users with information related to the site of interest: historical data and information in various multimedia formats (text, audio, and video). What makes the app innovative is that, instead of searching for the monument in the guide using traditional methods, users will simply take a photo of the site of interest, and the app will recognize the monument and then provide information about it. It makes extensive use of the hardware found in today’s mobile devices: GPS, accelerometer, compass, and camera.
Martín Arzuaga and Javier Fiorina, students of Systems Engineering and Electronics Engineering, respectively, also received recognition for developing an app called “Guía T.” This app provides information on points of interest in a city, such as addresses, phone numbers, hours of operation, images, and prices. If GPS is available, it will pinpoint the user’s location and search for information about the surrounding area or city where the user is located. At each point of interest, users can leave comments and recommendations for future visitors.
