The speakers analyzed urban growth policies and models that restrict land use in relation to socioeconomic and environmental objectives and presented the urban planning parameters that determine the buildable area of a real estate project. This event took place as part of the Seminar Series on Real Estate Development organized by the faculty.
Architect Bervejillo holds a diploma in Regional Development Management from ILPES (Latin American and Caribbean Institute for Economic and Social Planning) – ECLAC (Economic Commission for Latin America) and a Fulbright Fellowship in Urban Studies from the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (DUSP-MIT). He is an international consultant in urban planning and land-use planning. He served as National Director of Land Use Planning at the Ministry of Housing, Land Use Planning, and the Environment (MVOTMA).
Architect José Freitas holds a Master’s degree in Territorial Planning and Urban Development from the University of the Republic. For the past 12 years, he has been working on architectural projects, preliminary designs, feasibility studies, design, and construction management at the Brito-Freitas-Gatti firm. Since 2011, he has served as Director of the Department of Planning, Territorial Management, and Urban Development for the Canelones Municipal Government. For the past three years, he has been working in partnership with architect Federico Bervejillo on projects related to territorial planning and urban design, including territorial impact studies, feasibility studies, consulting, and/or the development of various land-use planning instruments. He also practices independently. He teaches the “Urban Planning Workshop” course at the School of Architecture.
Aramis Latchinian holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Oceanography, a Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences, and is a specialist in Environmental Management. He is the Director of GEA Environmental Consultants, having coordinated more than 90 environmental impact studies in the region and developed more than 40 environmental management systems (ISO 14001) and conducted environmental audits for numerous public and private organizations. He has experience in beach environmental management and in developing beach certification standards for tourism ministries; he has trained municipal staff and advised local communities on beach management.
