The Institute of Education at Universidad ORT Uruguay, together with the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) and the Ceibal Foundation, invites you to the presentation of the final results and the training proposal for the project “Strengthening Teachers’ Digital Competencies in Secondary Education for Artificial Intelligence-Mediated Assessment” (FSED_2_2024_1_183811).

Why is this project so important for Uruguay today?

Uruguay is at a pivotal moment in its digital citizenship journey. This study, conducted with 187 teachers from 12 middle schools, reveals the “adoption paradox.” While 72.8% of teachers view artificial intelligence as a historic opportunity to improve teaching, 75.4% have never used it to assess their students’ performance. In addition, 88.8% of teachers cite a lack of specific training as the main barrier to making the technological leap.

The Heart of the Project: AI Expedition

In direct response to these needs, we present “AI Expedition: Assessment with a Human Touch”: a context-specific professional development strategy co-designed with teachers and a panel of international experts. Under the motto “Correct Less, Support More,” this program seeks to redesign assessment, promote inclusion, and protect the unique aspects of human beings—which artificial intelligence should never replace.

About the Event

During the event, the IA Expedition roadmap will be presented, which includes flexible itineraries (“choose your own adventure”) and the innovative “Ateneo effect,” in which learning arises from peer-to-peer exchange and the recognition of mistakes as a source of professional knowledge.

In addition to the research team leading the project, the event will feature Eduardo Mangarelli, an engineer and leading expert at the intersection of artificial intelligence and education.
