Sponsorship Program

Join the Sponsorship Program

Would you like to sponsor exchange students?

If you enjoy learning about different cultures, practicing languages, and helping others, this program is for you. You don't have to host the students or take responsibility for them.

The idea is to help guide you through day-to-day matters, both at the university and in your free time, especially during your first few weeks in Uruguay.

Events

We all work together to organize events, such as a welcome barbecue, a trip to Colonia, and international dinners. If you’re interested in helping to organize events, you can join the committee; if you don’t have enough time but have good ideas, we’d love to hear them.

What should I do?

When you join the Mentor Program, we’ll assign you one of the exchange students.

The idea is that you email him before he arrives, sharing his fears and his excitement. Once he gets here, visit him a couple of times, show him how to order food at a restaurant and how much to tip; teach him how to drink mate, how the ATM works, where the student affairs office is, what “salado” means, and whatever else comes to mind…

What are the requirements?

A desire to learn, to teach, and to have new experiences. Students already know Spanish when they arrive and receive ongoing support from the university. The program is exclusively for students at Universidad ORT Uruguay.

Do I need to know English?

No. The students already know Spanish when they arrive and want to improve their skills here. There’s no better way to do that than by speaking to them in Spanish.

When do the exchange students arrive?

The university admits students for both semesters. Student mentors are assigned approximately one month before classes begin.
