Studying abroad

Other options

If you are interested in spending a semester at a university with which we do not have an exchange agreement, or if you are considering continuing your studies in another country, you will find basic information here about the possibility of participating in a non-degree exchange program or transferring to a foreign university.

Free mobility

To study abroad for a semester as an independent student—whether at a university with which we have an agreement or at an institution without a current agreement—students must contact the international office of the foreign university directly and strictly follow that office’s instructions.

The student is solely responsible for making initial contact, submitting the application, and handling all academic and administrative matters. The University does not intervene or take any action on behalf of the host institution in cases of open exchange.

Not all universities accept international students outside the specific quota or framework of their agreements, and when they do, they typically charge tuition equivalent to the cost of a regular semester.

In addition, once the academic program has been completed, the student must obtain and submit a transcript that has been properly legalized or apostilled in order to begin the credential recognition process.

Whether courses can be transferred and the number of transfers allowed depend entirely on the legal regulations of the destination country and the foreign university’s transfer policy.

Typically, to begin the credit transfer process, universities require students to submit a file containing the course syllabi for each course taken, translated into the language of the destination country and authenticated for use abroad. It is important to note that Universidad ORT Uruguay all its documentation in Spanish.

The complete set of documents can be requested throughGestión, the student self-service system. The process takes at least one month, not including the time required for translation and the necessary legalizations.
