Mobile phones

There are three cell phone providers (Antel, Movistar, and Claro).

Many companies offer “toll-free numbers” that allow customers to call other customers of the same carrier for free or at a reduced rate.

How do I get a SIM card?

  1. Buy a prepaid SIM card at one of Antel’s main branches (you’ll need to bring your passport so they can register your personal information. That way, if you have any issues with your phone, you can keep the same number. They’ll usually ask you for a contact number in Uruguay).
  2. Go to an Abitab location to add credit.
