An international training opportunity for English teachers

March 25, 2025
The BRIDGE TESOL project aims to promote the professional development of teachers of English as a second language in both Uruguay and Mississippi (United States).

Mississippi State University, in collaboration with the Institute of Education at the Universidad ORT Uruguay, launched the initiative Building Regional Initiatives for Developing Global Educators for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (BRIDGE TESOL).

This program aims toincrease the number of English teachers for non-native speakers. It also seeks to study and improve the teaching practices of educators in Mississippi and Uruguay, particularly with regard to language development, context-based teaching approaches, and the design of educational materials.

The proposal will include in-person professional development sessions for 20 educators from both countries, as well as the creation of an international online learning community.

Uruguayan in-service English teachers who do not have specific training and are interested in participating in BRIDGE TESOL may apply using the form below.

The application deadline is Friday, May 23, 2025.

BRIDGE TESOL is a project led by Dr. Lourdes Cardozo-Gaibisso (Mississippi State University) and Natalia Zambon, M.A. (Universidad ORT Uruguay). Both researchers have extensive experience in teaching English to speakers of other languages and share a commitment to advancing multilingual education and improving teaching practices.

Through this initiative—made possible by the Global Development Seed Grant from Mississippi State University’s International Institute—we hope to establish a sustainable and scalable professional development model that benefits English language educators and promotes international collaboration through student and faculty exchanges.
