What began as a solution to connect carriers with shippers has now evolved into a more comprehensive platform. “The app started as an idea to connect carriers with shippers, but it grew based on what we observed in the day-to-day operations of the industry,” explains Rodrigo.
Lucciano Begino, a project partner with experience in the logistics sector, joined the process and provided a key operational perspective for the project’s development. “I’d been working in transportation for years and was able to contribute insights based on the real challenges of the business. That was a huge help in fine-tuning the platform.”
Today, Routist doesn't just allows you to manage shipments, but also manage fleets, assign trips and track in real time.
Modules designed for operation
One of the key advancements was the addition of new modules designed to address specific industry needs. These include fleet management tools, real-time monitoring, and carrier billing, as well as solutions for managing unloading operations at industrial plants and large retail facilities, which enable the coordination of shifts, access, and wait times while ensuring operational traceability.
“There are many companies that work with third-party carriers and don’t have a tool to consolidate all their information. We aim to solve that problem,” says Rodrigo.
In addition, Routist addresses a key challenge in logistics: customer service. In many cases, companies lack visibility into the location of their carriers—whether in-house or third-party—and are unable to clearly communicate that information to their customers.
This leads to numerous inquiries, phone calls, and a high level of uncertainty for those awaiting delivery. In this situation, the platform serves as an information hub that connects all parties involved.
“We want both the company and the end customer to always have a clear understanding of the transaction, thereby avoiding unnecessary calls or delivery frustrations,” explains Rodrigo.
AI for Automating Decisions
One of the most recent developments is the integration of artificial intelligenceinto various company processes. “We started asking ourselves how we could handle certain tasks without relying on a person, so that the system could operate 24 hours a day,” explains Rodrigo.
Based on this approach, they developed AI agents that automatically call carriers to coordinate shipments, request quotes, and find the best available option. “It’s an agent that calls the entire network, checks prices, and then sends us the information so we can make decisions faster.”
Simplicity as a distinguishing feature
From the very beginning, the team prioritized ease of use, understanding the real-world conditions of logistics work. “People are constantly on the move; you can’t ask them to use something complicated. It has to be simple and intuitive,” says Lucciano.
In this vein, the platform allows users to perform basic tasks such as accepting a shipment, marking it as in transit, and confirming delivery. In addition, they have incorporated a conversational interface that further simplifies the process.
You can write as if you were using ChatGPT: just tell the system what you need, and it will generate the message for you.
Growth and Adoption
The company already has active customer base and a well-established network of carriers. “We have customers who use the platform on a regular basis and carriers who are monitoring shipments to accept them,” says Lucciano.
This growth was also driven by interest from companies looking to implement these solutions in their own operations. “Many companies saw how it worked when they were shipping goods and wanted to replicate it internally,” adds Rodrigo.
Adapting to Make an Impact
One of the main challenges has been the adoption of technology in a traditional sector. “There’s interest, but sometimes it’s hard to take that final step. There’s a certain fear of adopting new tools,” Lucciano acknowledges.
In response, the team has opted for a strategy of gradual integration. “We try to adapt to how companies already operate and solve their problems, rather than imposing a system on them from scratch.”
A regional perspective
With a solution that is constantly evolving, Routist is planning to expand beyond Uruguay. “It’s a model that can be replicated in other markets such as Brazil, Argentina, or Paraguay,” says Rodrigo.
The goal is to continue developing the platform, adding new features, and establishing it as a comprehensive solution for logistics management.
