Tapitero is part of Universidad ORT Uruguay environmental awareness campaign Universidad ORT Uruguay aims to turn an everyday action—such as saving a plastic bottle cap—into a practice with a collective impact.
How the initiative works
The initiative encourages students and staff to place their plastic bottle caps in the "Tapitero" and label them with a number. Once the container is full, a drawing is held among the participants to keep them motivated and highlight the collective effort.
The prize consists of a sustainable kit designed to support specific changes in daily life, such as replacing disposable items with reusable alternatives and reducing the generation of single-use waste.
2025 Results
In 2025, 15 kg of bottle caps were recycled, which is equivalent to approximately 7,400 caps, according to records from the Tapitero campaign.

In addition to recycling plastic, the initiative helps foster the habit of sorting waste and promote responsible consumption practices within the university community.
Alignment with the SDGs
Tapitero aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, part of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, which promotes sustainable consumption and production patterns to reduce the environmental impact of goods and services.
The initiative is part of Universidad ORT Uruguay sustainability strategy, which has been promoting waste separation and recycling, responsible consumption, and environmental awareness on its campuses since 2017.
Through initiatives such as Tapitero, the university is strengthening its institutional commitment to responsible waste management and promoting active community participation in addressing today’s environmental challenges.
