Call for Papers for the 2nd Ibero-American Congress on Sustainable Social Housing

In this edition, the conference will address the theme: “Forms of Living: Valuing, Restoring, Creating.”

Based in Montevideo and Buenos Aires, and with the participation of universities from 9 countries, the 2nd Ibero-American Congress on Sustainable Social Housing is now accepting abstracts for its 2026 edition, to be held June 1–5.

The selected papers will be included in the digital proceedings of the event with an ISBN and will be presented in person before an international scientific committee.

This is a unique opportunity for researchers, educators, students, and social groups in the region who wish to contribute their insights to the debate on the transformations of social housing in Ibero-America, at one of the most significant academic conferences in the field.

International visibility and publication

The accepted papers will be included in the digital proceedings of the conference, which will have an ISBN number and will be presented in in person.

The event will take place in two cities, with activities at the School of Architecture, Design, and Urban Planning at the University of the Republic (Uruguay), the School of Architecture at Universidad ORT Uruguay, the School of Architecture, Design, and Urban Planning at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), and the Department of Architecture, Design, and Urban Planning at the National University of Avellaneda (Argentina).

The participation in the conference not only provides international academic visibility, but also offers aspace for interdisciplinary exchange, featuring lectures, panel discussions, and guided tours of significant housing complexes in both cities.

Ways of Living: Valuing, Restoring, Creating

The conference proposes to examine how to assess existing housing complexes, restore their vitality, and create new architectural designs that integrates social, economic, and environmental criteria.

The call invites discuss the rehabilitation of housing complexes, the revitalization of urban areas, and the use of sustainable technologies, as well as assisted self-construction, progressive housing, and experiences in rural areas.

Presentations may include studies on formal and informal networks, public-private partnership models, and contributions from social groups.

How can I participate in the conference?

  1. Write a summary of 500 to 800 words using the template available here, on the conference’s official website.

  2. Name the file “R_ShortTitle_FirstNameLastName.doc” and and send it in .docx format to civiss@rediviss.com by 1:00 p.m. (UTC‑3) on August 25, 2025.

  3. If your abstract is accepted, please register and submit the full text (max. 5,000 words) by January 15, 2026, for inclusion in the digital proceedings with an ISBN.

Papers must be submitted orally and in person in Montevideo or Buenos Aires, as indicated in the schedule.

Who can participate?

  • Researchers, faculty members, and undergraduate or graduate students.

  • Mixed teams that include external social or professional groups.

  • Authors from Latin America, Spain, and Portugal interested in sustainable social housing.

In addition to publication, the selected authors will have the opportunity to discuss their findings with an international committee and take part in guided tours to iconic housing complexes in Montevideo and Buenos Aires.

Academic Committee with ORT representation

The REDIVISS Organizing Committee includes, among others, Architect Guillermo Lockhart, PhD in Advanced Architectural Projects (ORT School of Architecture), Lucas Longoni (FADU-UBA and DADU-UNDAV, Argentina), and Mary Méndez (FADU-Udelar, Uruguay), ensuring the participation of regional leaders in the history and theory of housing.
