It is with deep sorrow that we bid farewell to our colleague and friend, Architect Emilio Nisivoccia

August 20, 2026
It is with great sadness and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our colleague and friend, Architect Emilio Nisivoccia. Emilio was a pivotal figure in the history of our school, a professor with an impressive career who was deeply loved by generations of students and colleagues.

He joined the School of Architecture at the National Autonomous University of Mexico ( Universidad ORT Uruguay ) in 2004 and devoted more than two decades to educating his students. His commitment to teaching, his generosity, and the way he supported his students left a profound mark on our academic community.

He holds a degree in architecture from the University of the Republic (Uruguay) and is a doctoral candidate at FADU-Udelar; he also had a distinguished career as a professor and researcher at that institution. His work spanned the history and criticism of architecture, publishing, and curation. He curated the Uruguayan entries for the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2010 and 2014, and made valuable contributions to Uruguayan architecture and culture.

Emilio's passing is a heavy blow to our school and to the architectural community. We extend our most sincere condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones, whom we support with deep affection during this painful time.

Farewell, dear Emilio. We will remember you with affection, admiration, and gratitude.

The wake will be held on Saturday, August 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Carlos Sicco (2236 Av. Gral. Rivera).
