Applications may be submitted by individuals or by legally constituted teams of architects. In the case of teams, all members must meet the age requirement and demonstrate a shared professional track record.

Teams selected for BAL 2025 will not be eligible to reapply for this edition. However, participants from previous editions who still meet the age requirement may apply.

What should the application include?

To submit an application, you must complete the application form and prepare the documentation specified in the rules:

  • personal information about the participant or team;
  • a sworn statement of compliance with the requirements and a copy of an ID card or passport;
  • a brief résumé, including your most representative works, academic or teaching achievements, publications, and other relevant information;
  • A portfolio in DIN A3 landscape format featuring a selection of representative works.

The dossier must be written in Spanish or Portuguese and submitted electronically in PDF format.

Completed construction projects and unbuilt projects must be clearly distinguished. Unbuilt projects must be explicitly identified as “NOT BUILT” , and for completed projects, renderings may not be submitted. The rules state that failure to comply with these guidelines may result in disqualification.

The BAL focuses on completed projects, so it is essential to include at least one completed project. Although a higher number is not required as a minimum, the rules recommend that participants have completed at least two significant projects.

How will the applications be selected?

According to the guidelines, the professional track record of the participants, the architectural quality of the submitted works, and their ability to engage with the surrounding environment. Academic merits related to teaching may also be considered.

The selection committees in each geographic region will choose four candidates from their area and send the corresponding application packages to Pamplona. The final selection of the architects or firms invited to participate in BAL 2027 will be made there.

How do I apply from Uruguay?

The rules recommend submitting nominations through the delegate assigned to each country. For Uruguay, the designated delegate is architect Alejandro Baptista, based in Montevideo.

The documentation can be sent to abaptist.arq@gmail.com and the deadline for receipt by the delegate is October 1, 2026.

The rules also allow for the possibility of submitting applications directly to the Biennial in Pamplona, although they recommend submitting them through the appropriate delegates.
