This year, which marks the 35th anniversary of the MBA program, the dinner was held at the Business School’s new building, located on Luis de la Torre Street.
With more than a hundred people gathered in the lobby of the new building—including graduates, faculty members, and prominent figures from the business community—the event recognized the achievements and career paths of its outstanding students, reinforcing the university’s sense of community and its commitment to its alumni network. It serves as a venue for strengthening ties and fostering collaboration in a welcoming and professional atmosphere.
Reunion at the New Business School
“It is an honor for me to welcome you to our new home,” said Magalí Da Silva, MBA, in her opening remarks. “It truly brings me great joy to see that we were able to pull off all the logistics required to hold our 2025 Annual Alumni Dinner here today,” said the academic coordinator of the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program.
Dr. Teresa Cometto, dean of the School of Business and Social Sciences, reflected on the significance of the 35th anniversary of the MBA program, a pioneer in Uruguay. She said it marked “a turning point,” because it highlighted the importance of education for businesses, as well as the need for rigor, discipline, and methodology.

“The meaning of success,” said the dean, “varies from person to person: ‘For some, it may be recognition; for others, professional growth; it could be an international experience; or it could be earning more money,’” she said.
In my view, there is one fundamental principle that should never be overlooked: a successful professional must always be a caring leader who puts people first.

As is customary, the evening featured an awards ceremony honoring the projects and professionals who stood out over the course of the year, recognizing their excellence and contributions to the business community.

Notable Alumni, MBA Class of 2025
One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the 2025 Outstanding MBA Alumni Award, which honors graduates who, in their respective fields, have made significant contributions to the business sector. This distinction is presented each year by the MBA Advisory Board.
The honorees are selected based on an analysis of the graduates’ professional trajectories, taking into account three key areas: entrepreneurship, corporate careers, and professional transformation. This year, the honorees were:
- Juan Semeco, MBA '19, Associate Medical Director for Global Medical Affairs;
- Lorena Veiga, MBA '10, Group Leader at Vesta Software;
- Ximena Aleman, MBA ’17, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Prometeo.
Based on a vote by the alumni community, a special award is presented to one of these three individuals: Lorena Veiga received it from Ana Inés Motta, who had won it in 2024.
Veiga was presented with a sculpture by Uruguayan artist Raúl Sampayo, titled “Estela,” created specifically for ORT’s MBA program to mark its 35th anniversary. Cast in bronze, silver, copper, and chestnut wood, “Estela” embodies the mark that learning leaves when it becomes a way of life.
During the event, held in the courtyard of the Business School, Forbes Uruguay set up a photo booth. Other sponsors who contributed to the success of the evening included: Viasono, EY, BlueCross BlueShield, Fumaya Equipamientos, Torbul, MBC, Quiero Chocolate, Bracco Bosca, Alicia Risotto, Vitale, Sprite, Coca-Cola, Dove, Smirnoff, and Tanqueray.
