In attendance at the ceremony were the Director General of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, Dr. Pablo Ferrari; the sports representative from the Catholic University, Prof. José Cotelo; the representative from the University of Montevideo, Prof. Raúl Guerra; the representative from ORT University, Mag. Mario Matalonga; and the award-winning athletes.
This tournament was created in 2000 by the University Sports Organizing Committee (CODU), which consists of one representative from each of Uruguay’s private universities, two from the University of the Republic, and one from the Ministry of Sports and Youth.
Participants and Award Winners of the 2004 Intercollegiate Tournament
The following institutions participated in the 2004 edition: the Schools of Psychology and Law at the University of the Republic, the Catholic University of Uruguay, the University of the Enterprise, the University of Montevideo, Universidad ORT Uruguay, the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) University Institute, the Higher Institute of Physical Education, the Military Academy, the Military Academy of Aeronautics, and the Naval Academy.
The winning teams received medals and trophies.
Universidad ORT Uruguay took first place in volleyball, basketball, women’s handball, and indoor soccer, while the Naval Academy took first place in swimming. Second place went to the Catholic University in volleyball and basketball, the University of Montevideo in women’s handball, the ACJ in indoor soccer, and the Military Academy in swimming.
