Smartway specializes in telemetry and IoT projects for the agriculture, transportation, construction, and forestry sectors.
His work focuses on designing innovative technological solutions for controlling machinery and vehicles through direct communication with the onboard computer. This enables remote vehicle monitoring, automatic detection of faults or anomalies, and intelligent tracking of performance trends.
Gain firsthand experience in entrepreneurship
During the event, students learned how Smartway got its start. It began with two final-year projects, which were then incubated at the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Universidad ORT Uruguay Ingenio, eventually growing into a company with clients around the world.
Meeting with the founders
The three founders of Smartway—José García, Gonzalo Díaz, and Nicolás Cremona— shared their experiences as entrepreneurs in the tech sector, the challenges they faced along the way, and the company’s evolution. In addition, the students had the opportunity to talk with other members of the company—including graduates and current students in these fields—who are now part of the team.
Tour and open discussion
The visit included a tour of the facilities and a Q&A session during which the students asked questions about how the company operates, the roles of various job positions, and the opportunities offered by working in an innovative environment.
A bridge between academia and industry
These types of initiatives aim to expose students to the realities of the workforce, inspiring them to envision how they can apply the knowledge they’ve gained during their studies and encouraging them to chart their own career paths in the tech industry.
