The European Union Delegation in Uruguay has opened registration for Euromodelo 2026, a program aimed at college students interested in gaining firsthand insight into how diplomacy, negotiation, and European institutions work.
The program is open to students from all university majors: you do not need to be studying International Relations, Law, Political Science, or related fields. The goal is to bring together diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and interests in an experience that brings together young people from across the country.
In this edition, 70 students will be selected to participate in training sessions and then take on the role of European parliamentarians in a simulation of the European Parliament.
Who is eligible to apply for Euromodelo 2026?
This call for applications is open to university students in Uruguay who are under 27 years of age and are currently enrolled in at least their second year of a degree program.
Admission to the program is free, and the selection process aims to create a diverse group, ensuring representation from different universities and regions of the country, as well as gender equity.
For students studying in the interior, the program covers transportation, lodging, and meals during in-person sessions in Montevideo.
The Challenge of 2026: Discussing Water Resource Management
Each edition of Euromodelo features a central theme that serves as the focus of the discussion. In 2026, participants will discuss the management of water resources, an issue that involves environmental, social, economic, and political challenges on a global scale.
Based on that topic, students will have to exchange arguments, negotiate positions, and reach agreements, replicating the dynamics typical of the European Parliament.
The program thus combines knowledge of how the European Union works with skills in negotiation, diplomacy, political participation, and critical thinking.
An experience in training, discussion, and negotiation
Euromodelo seeks to engage younger generations in international issues and create a space for participation centered on values such as democracy, human rights, sustainability, cooperation, and the rule of law.
The program includes a training process and culminates in an in-person institutional simulation, in which the young people put what they have learned into practice and experience firsthand the challenges of representing different positions, debating proposals, and reaching consensus.
Regardless of each participant's field of study, the program aims to develop skills that apply across multiple professional fields: reasoning, communication, negotiation, teamwork, and the analysis of complex problems.
How to Register for Euromodelo 2026
Applications are open until September 13. Those who meet the requirements can fill out the registration form available on the website of the Delegation of the European Union in Uruguay.
For ORT students in any major who are interested in debate, global challenges, and the chance to share an experience with college students from across Uruguay, Euromodelo 2026 offers an opportunity to step outside the classroom, gain new skills, and get an inside look at the workings of an international institution.
