HackaCOM 2026: Apply for a scholarship covering up to 80% of the cost

If you’re in your 2nd or 3rd year of upper secondary school (EMS), take part in HackaCOM 2026 and compete for a scholarship covering up to 80% of the cost of a university degree program at the School of Communication at Universidad ORT Uruguay. Register by August 27 and create an audiovisual or audio production as part of an experience that combines education, creativity, and hands-on practice.
HackaCOM 2026: Apply for a scholarship covering up to 80% of the cost

HackaCOM is a competition open to students currently enrolled in their 2nd or 3rd year of upper secondary school at public or private institutions in Uruguay, or in the equivalent technological high school program at UTU. 

Registration will remain open untilThursday, August 27, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.

Participants may register individually or in pairs. Minors must submit authorization from a legal guardian. 

Through an experience that combines a virtual workshop and a production hackathon, the contest aims to introduce participants to the world of audiovisual and audio communication using digital tools, contemporary narratives, and creative prompts.

The goal is to develop meaningful content, strengthen strategic thinking, and provide an experience that closely resembles real-world communication

Learn, create, and compete for a scholarship 

The first stage consists of anonline workshop on audiovisual storytelling, which will take placeon August 28, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m

During the workshop, participants will learn about the main audiovisual and audio genres and formats, gain a basic understanding of camera operation, sound recording, and editing, and explore tools for producing journalistic, advertising, corporate, and personal branding content. Those who complete this session will receive a certificate of participation. 

Take part in a content creation hackathon 

The second stage will be anin-person hackathon, which will take place onSeptember 11, 2026, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m

In this phase, participants will develop an audiovisual or audio production based on a topic of their choice. They may create content such as advertisements for digital platforms, informational messages, data storytelling, corporate, institutional, or personal-brand podcasts, as well as audiovisual or audio fiction projects.

Although participation in the hackathon is not mandatory, the judging panel will give special consideration to projects created on the Universidad ORT Uruguay campus Universidad ORT Uruguay the university’s equipment.

The final project submission deadline is September 14, 2026, at 8:00 p.m

Assessment criteria 

The projects will be evaluated by the academic coordinators of the degree programs in the School of Communication, based on four main criteria: 

  • Creativity and innovation. 
  • Technical quality. 
  • Narrative and Content Structure. 
  • Impact and relevance of the proposal. 

HackaCOM 2026 Awards 

The individual or pair that takes first place will receive an 80% scholarship to pursue one of the undergraduate degree programs at the School of Communication at Universidad ORT Uruguay.
