Innovation, Talent, and the Future of Free Trade Zones

ORT participated in the 28th Ibero-American Free Trade Zone Conference, an event that brought together public and private sector leaders to discuss trends, challenges, and opportunities in innovation, sustainability, investment attraction, and talent development.
Universidad ORT Uruguay the Ibero-American Free Trade Zone Conference*

Representing the School of Business and Social Sciences was Erika Lanzetta, M.A., academic coordinator of the Foreign Trade Analyst and Logistics and Supply Chain Management Analyst programs. Her participation allowedfor “learning about regional experiences, discussing the future of the free trade zone regime, and strengthening strategic ties among the various stakeholders in the ecosystem,the coordinator noted.

The booth welcomed several national and regional officials, including the President of the Republic, Prof. Yamandú Orsi, who highlighted the presence of Universidad ORT Uruguaythe only educational institution participating in the event. Discussions with the president focused on the need to continue promoting the training of logistics talent and on the value of continuing to develop joint projects with foundations such as Tecnolog, with which ORT has been collaborating since last year.

The event proved to be extremely valuable for strengthening ties with industry leaders and exchanging views on the future of free trade zones.

In addition, Eduardo Mangarelli, dean of the School of Engineering, gave a lecture in which he emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration between academia and industry, promoting training, innovation, and development projects for the sector.

The 28th Ibero-American Free Trade Zone Conference was held from November 19 to 21, 2025, in Punta del Este. Juan Opertti, professor of Operations and Logistics at the School of Management and Social Sciences, was one of the event’s organizers, as he is a member of the Uruguayan Free Trade Zone Chamber.
