Thus, ORT’s Real Estate Agent program is the only one of its kind offered by a private university that has is recognized by the MEC.
What does this recognition mean for students?
Graduates of this program will earn the title of Real Estate Agent, registered with the MEC.
For Dr. Michelle Fleitas, the program’s academic coordinator, this recognition also strengthens her students’ education and career prospects. In this regard, Dr. Fleitas stated:
“This recognition has a substantial impact on students, the real estate market, and the clients who choose the services of our graduates, because it supports higher education in areas that are essential to providing quality service.”
It also takes on particular importance in light of the new regulatory framework governing the real estate sector in Uruguay.
A requirement set forth in the Real Estate Operator Act
The Law 20,380, which regulates the activities of real estate brokers, established the National Registry of Real Estate Brokers.
To register with that registry and obtain a real estate operator’s license, the law requires, among other things, proving completion of courses recognized by the MEC.
Therefore, once the law has been implemented and the registry is operational, those who graduate from the 2025 Plan will be able to demonstrate that they meet the educational requirement set forth in the regulations when applying for registration.
Registration will also be subject to compliance with the other conditions established by law.
Comprehensive Training for the Real Estate Industry
The Real Estate Operator degree program lasts two years plus a final project. The program integrates knowledge of architecture, urban planning, law, notarial practices, appraisals, economics, finance, marketing, negotiation, sales, and technology applied to the real estate business.
This program prepares students to mediate and negotiate in real estate transactions, prepare appraisal reports, manage properties, and evaluate projects, with an understanding of the regulations governing the industry.
The MEC's recognition provides official endorsement of the program's academic standards and reinforces the value of the education that its students receive within the new professional framework of the Uruguayan real estate sector.
