The launch took place on September 28, 2026, during a virtual event in which the call for entries was presented and information was provided on the requirements, categories, and participation guidelines.
The event featured leading figures from the fashion, design, and sustainability industries. Among them wasDis. Ind. TyM Mariana Muzi, academic coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design; Sofía Inciarte, director of Moweek; Valentina Parentelli, Impact Manager at the United Nations Global Compact Uruguay; Fedra Mauricci, fashion producer; Lucía López, professor at the FADU University School of Design, Udelar; and Sandra Moreira, founder and director of Casa Urbana.
The initiative stems from the need to promote a more sustainable and responsible fashion industry, taking into account the sector's environmental impact.
The organizing institutions aim to engage with the private sector from a perspective linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to highlight those Uruguayan brands that are taking concrete actions in the area of sustainability.
The second edition continues an initiative that debuted in 2021, when Casa Urbana, with its Cereus collection, won the Sustainable Fashion Award in Uruguay.
The United Nations Global Compact encourages companies to incorporate sustainable practices based on the Ten Principles and the SDGs. Within this framework, the award seeks to highlight the actions taken by Uruguayan companies and organizations to move toward a more sustainable fashion industry.
The proposal is also linked to the Fashion Design bachelor's degree program, which encourages students to engage with the market and reflect on the role of the designer as a creator of culture.
