This public diplomacy program invites college students from across the country to experience firsthand what it’s like to negotiate as members of the European Parliament, in a training and political simulation setting that is unique in the region.
What is the Euromodel?
This initiative, launched by the Delegation of the European Union in Uruguay, aims to familiarize young people with the EU’s principles, values, and priorities. Through training sessions, discussions, and an institutional simulation exercise, participants take on the role of Members of the European Parliament and learn about diplomacy, negotiation, and international cooperation.
The program encourages critical thinking, dialogue, and active participation, while strengthening ties between the Delegation, universities, and students.
The Euromodelo is not just an academic program; it is an experience in active citizenship and leadership training. For many students, it represents the first step on the path to international politics and an opportunity to engage with major global debates.
2025 Theme: Renewable Energy
Each year, Euromodelo proposes a topic for discussion, and this year’s focus will be the energy transition. Renewable energy sources—solar, wind, hydro, and biomass—are seen as the key to addressing climate change, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and committing to sustainable development.
The European Union has charted a clear course with the European Green Deal, which aims for climate neutrality by 2050. For its part, Uruguay has become an international leader by ensuring that more than 95% of its electricity comes from renewable sources. These two models demonstrate how sustainability can drive innovation, energy independence, and economic growth.
A unique opportunity for students
Euromodelo 2025 is open to students from all university programs across the country. The selection process is competitive—there are only 70 spots available—and prioritizes gender equity, regional diversity, and equitable representation of universities.
The program combines online and in-person sessions, featuring experts in diplomacy, international politics, and negotiation. The program culminates with two days of activities in Montevideo: a simulation at the Ibis Hotel and another at the Legislative Chamber of the Legislative Palace, where diplomas will be awarded during an official ceremony.
In addition, to ensure inclusivity, students from outside the city will have their transportation, lodging, and meals covered during in-person sessions.
Enrolment
Registration for Euromodelo is open until September 1 and is limited to university students in Uruguay. The program will consist of several phases during which participants will have the opportunity to explore the topics discussed in depth and develop key skills for their personal and professional growth.
Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of this enriching experience that promotes academic exchange, leadership development, and a commitment to democratic values.
