The School of Design at the Universidad ORT Uruguay has launched the Bachelor of Arts in Digital Arts, a university program that combines artistic creation and technology to train professionals capable of developing, producing, directing, and managing digital works and experiences. The program will begin on March 15, 2027.

The new educational program offers a project-based approach that integrates the fundamentals of art and design with emerging technologies and contemporary production methodologies. The curriculum includes experimentation with artificial intelligence,audiovisual media, animation, interactivity, virtual reality, and immersive environments.

Students will be able to develop proposals such as installations, performances, audiovisual experiences, and interactive projects, incorporating digital tools as part of the creative process.

The proposal also aims to develop a distinct artistic vision, along with skills in research, conceptualization, production, and project management.

"This is a program for those who want to create, experiment, and work with the media that are shaping the present and future of art. You'll find a space to develop your ideas, explore new technologies, and build your own artistic and professional profile," explained Fabián Barros, M.A., academic coordinator of the new program. 

As a result, the program covers both the creative aspects and the technical skills needed to bring projects to fruition in the field of digital arts.

The Bachelor of Arts in Digital Arts is an evolution of theBachelor of Arts in Design, Art, and Technology, updated in response to the profound changes the arts have undergone in recent years.

Among the changes introduced are a greater presence of contemporary technologies, including artificial intelligence, as well as new creative possibilities related to interactivity, virtual reality, and immersive experiences.

Education and Professional Background

The program lasts four years and is offered in person. At the end of the second year, students earn an intermediate degree as a Visual Arts Technician; upon completing the program and passing the final project, they receive a Bachelor’s degree in Digital Arts.

Graduates will be able to work independently or as part of interdisciplinary teams at cultural institutions, companies, production companies, creative studios, and national and international organizations.

His professional field encompasses, among other areas, digital artistic creation, audiovisual production, art using artificial intelligence, installations and interactive experiences, virtual reality, immersive environments, projection mapping, and the creation of content and experiences for new media.

The bachelor's degree program offers a contemporary approach to studying art that is open to experimentation. It allows students to explore different artistic languages, develop their own creative identity, and prepare for a professional field that is constantly growing and evolving.

The new program thus expands the academic offerings of the School of Design in a field where artistic creation and digital technologies converge to generate new languages, formats, and experiences.

A space designed for creativity

The program is part of the new Creative Hub of the School of Communication and the School of Design, a 3,150 m² space designed to promote audiovisual, digital, artistic, and design production.

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and specialized spaces for experimentation and production, the Creative Hub offers students an environment where they can develop projects, work across disciplines, and take their ideas from initial experimentation through to completion and exhibition.
