On June 9, a group of ORT graduates gathered on the terrace of the Hampton Inn hotel, right in the heart of Times Square, to share their stories. Different stories, but the same starting point: Universidad ORT Uruguay.

The event, which was attended by Dr. Nicolás Gambetta, the academic vice dean of the School of Management and Social Sciences, provided an opportunity to reconnect, share achievements, and reflect on what it means to build a career from Uruguay out into the world.

Technology, Innovation, and Purpose

Digital transformation was a central theme in several stories.

Carina Rey, a graduate of the Software Analyst program, works at a tech startup in New York. She acknowledges that the technical foundation she gained at ORT was key to her success in a competitive environment:

“In all my work experiences, I apply something I learned at ORT,” Carina said.

Valentina Rodríguez, who began her career in executive secretarial studies and later trained as an information technology analyst, now leads projects in artificial intelligence, developer experience, and platform engineering at Red Hat, a global company specializing in open-source software, where she serves as Principal Architect.

She has earned two master's degrees in the United States and is currently involved in initiatives organized by Women in Tech NY.

"I always wanted to live in New York, and I came here looking for opportunities to grow. My degree gave me a very solid technical foundation, which was a huge help as I settled in here," Valentina shared.

Communication and International Outreach

In another corner of the rooftop, Aline Stein, who holds a degree in Management and Administration, shared her experience at UNICEF headquarters in New York, where she works in Communications and Advocacy. She spoke about the versatility of her education:

“What I learned at ORT prepared me to navigate a wide variety of environments. I appreciate that every day.”

A few feet away, Gonzalo Wynter explained how his bachelor’s degree in communication with a concentration in advertising served as the perfect foundation for pursuing his MBA at New York University.

He currently works as a Strategic Account Executive at Kaltura, a technology company that develops video solutions for education, media, and corporate communications.

As Gonzalo explained, the solid foundation he built during his undergraduate studies was perfectly complemented by his graduate studies. "The broad range of knowledge I gained during those years allowed me to learn about many things, from photography to culture and my specialization in advertising."

Architecture with a global impact

Design, sustainability, and education were also in the spotlight.

Patricia Abella, an architecture graduate, leads interior design projects at the renowned Meyer Davis studio, which specializes in high-end interior design for hotels, residences, and commercial spaces.

In her role as Senior Design Lead, she leads teams and works with clients in one of the world’s design capitals.

"We're much better prepared than graduates from American universities, because ORT provides a very strong technical foundation."

Mariana Rodríguez, who is also an architect, combines her professional experience in sustainable urban planning with teaching. She teaches an online course on urban ecology as part of the Landscape Architecture Technician program at Universidad ORT Uruguay, drawing on real-world examples from the city’s urban environment.

In addition, he serves on the board of an organization dedicated to promoting replicable models of sustainable urban development.

A community that transcends borders

Throughout the event, a shared conviction emerged: the ORT training program offered not only content, but also a mindset focused on action, innovation, and global outreach.

“It was a great pleasure to reconnect with our graduates, see how they’ve grown professionally, and watch them represent the university so well,” said Dr. Gambetta.

"This event reaffirms that ORT's educational programs prepare individuals to create value in diverse and global settings, with a real impact on strategic sectors such as technology, communication, and sustainability," he added.

From Uruguay to the world, nonstop

This latest gathering of ORT graduates in New York was more than just a reunion: it was proof that a solid education with an international perspective can open doors you never imagined.

And the connection to the university doesn't end with a degree: it is reinvented, strengthened, and celebrated.
