On July 28, an informational session about this competition was held at the ORT Centro Auditorium, organized with the support of the Academic Coordination Office for the Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design.
The contest is open to college students and professionals who are pursuing studies or work related to the contest’s theme. The goal is to create low-cost “recycling stations” or “recycling islands” where residents can bring their recyclable waste instead of disposing of it in the trash.
All 20 members of the 14 registered teams were in attendance.
Speakers included María José González, executive secretary of CEMPRE Uruguay; Mario Furest, representing the Uruguayan Chamber of Industries—Packaging Management Plan; María José Lombardi, representing the Canarian Municipality; Diego Santos, coordinator of the Ave Fénix Sorters’ Cooperative; and Jimena Risso, representing Supermercados Grupo Disco.
The exhibitors shared their perspectives and specific requirements for the design of the recycling stations, which led to a lively discussion among participants and experts.
