An international authority on dermatopathology gave a lecture at ORT

Dr. Eduardo Calonje, a dermatopathologist and internationally recognized expert, gave a lecture at Universidad ORT Uruguay in Universidad ORT Uruguay on the analysis of cases of cutaneous lymphomas and the clinical-pathological correlation in dermatopathology.

The event, organized by the ORT Institute of Dermatology, brought together dermatologists, pathologists, residents, and advanced-level students for a session of academic continuing education and professional exchange.

During the meeting, Calonje shared his experience in managing cases of interest related to cutaneous lymphomas and elaborated on the importance of correlating clinical and pathological findings for diagnosis in dermatopathology.

The conference provided the local medical community with insight from one of the most internationally renowned specialists in the field, in a setting designed to strengthen continuing education and the connection between clinical practice, pathological anatomy, and research.

An international leader in dermatopathology

Dr. Eduardo Calonje is the Director of Dermatopathology at St. John’s Institute of Dermatology at St. Thomas’ Hospital in the United Kingdom, a position he has held since 2022.

After completing his training in Clinical Pathology, he undertook a fellowship in Dermatopathology in Cardiff, Wales, funded by the British Council, as well as a training assignment in Dermatopathology in St. Louis, United States.

He also served as a senior resident in dermatology and dermatopathology at the St. John’s Institute of Dermatology at St. Thomas’ Hospital, where he earned the Diploma in Dermatopathology from the Royal College of Pathologists.

In addition, he serves on the board of the Dermatology Section of the Royal Society of Medicine and on the board of the British Division of the International Academy of Pathology. He served as president of the British Society of Dermatopathology and as an examiner for the Diploma in Dermatopathology from the Royal College of Pathologists.

Calonje is an honorary professor at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark and at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia. In 2022, he received the Neil Smith Medal and an award for his work in the field of international medical education, presented by the British Division of the International Academy of Pathology.

The event consisted of two lectures:

Notable Cases of Cutaneous Lymphomas

The first session, led by Dr. Eduardo Calonje, focused on the analysis of cases related to cutaneous lymphomas.

Clinicopathological Correlation in Dermatopathology

Second lecture focusing on the relationship between clinical and pathological findings in dermatopathological diagnosis.

The event also included a welcome coffee break and an intermission, which provided opportunities for the speaker and participants to interact.
