The initiative is aimed at students from across the country who will be in their third year of upper secondary school (EMS) in 2026 and plan to begin a college degree program in March 2027.
The scholarship honors Prof. Charlotte de Grünberg, who served as president of Universidad ORT Uruguay 1977 to 2024, and recognizes her legacy of providing opportunities for growth through education to thousands of Uruguayans.
An opportunity for students across the country
The contest is open to students who are under 20 years of age at the time of registration and who, in 2026, will be enrolled in the 3rd year of Upper Secondary Education (EMS) in any field of study at public or private institutions in Uruguay, or its equivalent at the General Directorate of Technical and Vocational Education (UTU).
As a requirement, applicants must have completed 5th year of high school in 2025 (currently 2nd year of EMS) with a grade point average of 9 or higher, or its equivalent in UTU.
To participate, students must complete the registration form available on the university's website and certify that the information provided is accurate.

An Assessment Based on Charlotte's Story
The contest includes an in-person exam on the book *The Girl Who Watched the Trains Leave*, by Uruguayan author Ruperto Long.
The book tells the story of Charlotte, a Belgian girl who was forced to flee with her family from Nazi persecution during World War II. Based on real events, the novel offers insight into the life story of the woman who would later become Professor Charlotte de Grünberg, and invites readers to reflect on resilience, memory, and the value of education.

Universidad ORT Uruguay free access to the book required to participate in the contest, either through its libraries or through the Biblioteca País de Ceibal.
The in-person exam will be held on November 6, 2026 , at 3:00 p. m .
The assessment will focus on the book's content and will evaluate reading comprehension, analysis, and reflection on the story.
The students with the highest scores will advance to the next phase of the competition. A panel of judges will then select three finalists, who will participate in individual interviews.
In December 2026, the recipient of the Charlotte de Grünberg Scholarship will be selected.
The selected candidate will begin their studies at Universidad ORT Uruguay March 2027, with all scholarship benefits in effect.

The selection process will feature a jury composed of leading figures from the educational, academic, and cultural fields:
- Miguel Brechner, Engineer, founder of Plan Ceibal.
- Ruperto Long, Engineer, author of *The Girl Who Watched the Trains Leave*.
- Dr. María Julia Muñoz, Minister of Education and Culture from 2015 to 2020 and Minister of Public Health from 2005 to 2010.
- Dr. Denise Vaillant, dean of the Institute of Education at Universidad ORT Uruguay.
