Opening Architecture to Society
The 2026 Architecture Week is designed to be a space for gathering, reflection, and outreach to society. The event aims to encourage reflection on the importance of architecture in building livable and sustainable cities and environments, as well as to foster dialogue about the challenges of professional practice in today’s social and cultural context.
The program will include conferences, talks, guided city tours, visits to notable sites, and other activities aimed at the community. In this way, SARQ 2026 aims to to bring architecture closer to the general public and to the academic and professional communitiesthrough activities focused on interdisciplinary exchange, the promotion of architectural work, and engagement with society.
A Gathering of Academia, Professionals, and the Public

In addition to the institutional support from the School of Architecture at Universidad ORT Uruguay, the SARQ 2026 events will feature opportunities for exchange among professionals, academics, and students.
The works selected for the Professional Project Exhibition will be presented at conferences to be held at the country’s three architecture schools.
ORT's School of Architecture will also have academic representation on the evaluation committee for the Architecture Degree Final Project Competition. This collaboration between academia and professional practice allows for create a dialogue between the recent work of architects, the new forms of disciplinary practice , and the issues currently shaping architecture in Uruguay.

Open Calls for SARQ 2026
As part of SARQ 2026, the Uruguayan Society of Architects launched two calls for entries aimed at highlighting and recognizing both the academic work of new generations and professional experiences that contribute to the development of the discipline throughout the country.
Architecture Degree Final Project Competition
The Architecture Degree Final Project Competition is open to architects—whether Uruguayan or foreign—who have completed the Architecture degree at a university in Uruguay. Final projects submitted and approved between November 15, 2023, and the deadline for submissions are eligible to enter the competition.
The proposal aims to highlight the value of undergraduate work, encourage reflection on the present and future of architecture, and recognize excellence in design based on criteria such as spatial quality, innovation, materiality, and technical development.
Applications may be submitted through August 5, 2026, using a form available on the website of the Uruguayan Society of Architects. The winning entries will be featured in institutional publications, and their authors will receive free memberships in the organization.
Presentation of Professional Projects
The Call for Professional Papers invites you to share projects, initiatives, and experiences that represent best practices and make significant contributions to the practice of architecture in Uruguay.

Submissions may fall under three main thematic areas:
- Architecture, Territory, and Community
- New Practices and Approaches to Professional Practice
- Architectural Work, Projects, and Production
These themes encompass experiences related to social impact, cultural management, public policy, technological innovation, and architectural production on various scales.Proposals (abstracts) for the Professional Work Presentation will be accepted until July 15, 2026, as explicitly stated in the rules of the call for entries, via the online form provided by the Uruguayan Society of Architects.

The selected papers will be presented during SARQ 2026 over the course of three sessions to be held at the campuses of the country’s three architecture schools (one session at each school). Each presentation is expected to last 15 minutes, as part of thematic panels consisting of a maximum of 10 projects, with each panel lasting a total of 3 hours.

Art Deco Architecture in Uruguay
As part of the SARQ 2026 program , the exhibition “Art Deco Architecture in Uruguay,” an exhibition through which the Uruguayan Society of Architects aims to promote and highlight this architectural legacy.

The exhibition will feature a selection of between 40 and 50 architectural works, presented on individual display panels with illustrations, photographs, and explanatory texts. In this way, the event will offer a perspective on the country’s architectural heritage and on the place of Art Deco in its architectural production.
