The School of Design participated in the 2025 Construction Fair

From October 15 to 19, the School of Design exhibited the finalist projects from the National Furniture Design Competition at the 2025 Construction Fair. The competition was organized by the Industrial Design program, Pronto Maderas, the Uruguayan Chamber of Design, UTU, and ADDIP.

Held since 2001, the 13th edition of the Construction Fair is one of the industry’s leading events in Uruguay, bringing together companies, professionals, workers, students, educational institutions, and the general public who are interested in or involved in the fields of architecture, design, and construction.

It is held every two years on the grounds of the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU).

The university's institutional booth showcased a selection of models and prototypes developed by students, graduates, and professionals across various categories of the competition, highlighting the participants' creativity, innovation, and technical quality.

During the fair, teachers, judges, and representatives from partner companies shared details with the public about the design, prototyping, and manufacturing processes involved in the projects.

The event served as a valuable opportunity to foster connections between academia, industry, and the general public, reaffirming the School of Design’s commitment to promoting national design and nurturing new talent.

What is the National Furniture Design Competition?

The competition calls for the design of furniture that promotes social interaction in various settings. Innovative proposals that address needs related to gathering, communication, or shared use—while incorporating criteria of functionality, identity, and manufacturability—will be highly valued.

Priority is given to designs that use at least 75% Guararapes melamine-faced particleboard as the primary material, optimizing its use through CNC cutting.

The competition is open to four categories of participants:high school students,college students, design professionals, andindustry professionals. 

From the High School and College categories, the following projects were selected as finalists:Hive Nest, MERAKI, The Cosmic Table, Configura, Hikers, Mesa LEMU, and MODULAR API.

The finalists in the Professional and Industry-Businesscategories were the projectsEstación Lorenzo, Lucha set, Otromas, Skins, Barcelona, Módulo O, and Tan.
