Universidad ORT Uruguay in a UNESCO pilot project

September 30, 2003
UNESCO invited Universidad ORT Uruguay participate in a project aimed at making graduate theses and dissertations available in electronic format.

The initial workshop took place in Brasília from September 22 to 24, 2003, and was attended by a librarian and an IT specialist from Universidad ORT Uruguay.

The goal is to implement a system at ORT for receiving and managing theses in electronic format, which was developed by UNESCO as part of a project led by the Brazilian Institute of Information Science and Technology (IBISTE).

Participants include the National University of the South (Bahía Blanca, Argentina), EAFIT University (Colombia), and Universidad ORT Uruguay.

These universities were selected by UNESCO because they have IT infrastructure and libraries staffed by professionals capable of managing this project.

ORT’s role is to implement the system on a pilot basis and transfer the technology to other institutions in Uruguay.
