On Saturday, August 5, and Sunday, August 6, the third edition of WinterJam took place at INGENIO - LATU, in the Los Naranjos building. There were about 70 participants, both men and women, ranging in age from twenty to forty and representing various professional fields (primarily programmers, artists, and musicians). After forming groups of six or seven, they worked on the project against the clock.
WinterJam was held for the first time in July 2015. Its goal was to create a mid-year gathering for everyone interested in video game development. The goal was to bridge the Global Game Jam, which takes place in January, with the National Video Game Competition, which is usually held at the end of the year. While these two events are essential for the developer community, there was a nine-month gap during which no such gatherings took place.
Over the past two years, the video game industry has seen the emergence of several organizations that bring the calendar to life for developers and others interested in the field. The Uruguayan Chamber of Video Game Developers (CAVI) has put a great deal of effort and perseverance into organizing events.
While the original goal remains to provide an opportunity to create or refine projects for the National Video Game Competition, the event also aims to facilitate the exchange of experiences, meet people with similar interests (in this case, video game development), and foster the developer community in Uruguay. The goal was to dedicate a weekend to creating, inventing, learning, and becoming part of Uruguay’s video game developer community.
The event is completely free and is made possible thanks to the support of Ingenio (LATU)and the Universidad ORT Uruguay. The video games were uploaded to a web platformwhere anyone interested can download them for free.
