Repapel is a civil society organization that has been actively promoting environmental education and the circular economy for over 20 years in Uruguay.

It aims to transform consumption and waste disposal habits by creating recycling networks that involve communities, educational institutions, and public and private organizations.

With a presence in more than 75 schools and the support of over 160 organizations, Repapel develops waste management programs that encourage active and informed participation.

These initiatives include providing educational materials as an incentive for those who participate in recycling and the proper sorting of waste.

Inter-institutional collaboration is a key component of its strategy. In this regard, ORT supports these efforts by donating all the paper and cardboard it collects on its campuses, reaffirming its commitment to an environmentally responsible culture.

Thanks to its track record and comprehensive approach, Repapel plays a key role in promoting sustainable practices, inspiring local communities to commit to caring for the environment and to adopt habits that foster a society that is more conscious of and respectful toward its surroundings.

ORT and Repapel: A Partnership for Recycling and the Circular Economy

Since 2018, the Universidad ORT Uruguay activelyUniversidad ORT Uruguay with Repapel by donating all the paper and cardboard generated on its campuses.

This partnership promotes the circular economy by turning waste into valuable resources and helping to reduce waste.

Thanks to this initiative, 47.6 tons of materials have been collected and recycled; these materials are then turned into notebooks, cardstock, and toilet paper and donated to public schools.

Design, education, and social commitment: a connection that goes beyond

In addition to donating materials, students from ORT’s School of Design participated in the creation of the covers for the recycled notebooks, combining creativity, sustainability, and social responsibility.

The university also supports teacher training and inclusion by providing a scholarship that allows a teacher to participate free of charge in the educational workshop organized by Repapel.

This partnership strengthens education for sustainable development, fostering changes in habits and consumption patterns through awareness-raising and training.

A day to rethink environmental education

The conference builds on the journey that began in 2024, which brought together teachers, instructors, workshop leaders, and educators around a shared goal: to reimagine education through a connection with nature, art, and hands-on experience.

Under the theme“Weaving Connections Between Education, Nature, and the Arts, this new edition takes an integrative approach, where science engages with art, play, and poetry, creating educational experiences that extend beyond the classroom and strengthen the connection between learning and the environment.

The main objective is to strengthen environmental education from a local and sensitive perspective, promoting knowledge that arises from direct contact with the environment and that encourages collective action.

An event organized responsibly

True to its principles, the event will be organized with a comprehensive approach to sustainability, applying circular economy principles to the use of supplies, waste management, and all aspects of logistics.

Local suppliers will be given priority, responsible practices will be encouraged, and every organizational decision will be aligned with the message being promoted.

A collective call

The Second Conference on Environmental Education invites participants to create a space for gathering, reflection, and action among educators, artists, researchers, and organizations committed to an education that embraces life, art, and the earth.
