On the one hand, Dr. María Carolina García, a visiting professor at the School of Design and holder of a Ph.D. in Communication and Semiotics from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (Brazil), was recognized as a Level I researcher in the Humanities category, subcategory “Other Humanities,” by the National System of Researchers (SNI).
This award recognizes his career and contributions in the field of academic research.
In addition to her academic and research work, has outstanding international professional career as a consultant in communication and semiotics, marketing strategies, and the analysis of fashion consumer behavior, working with companies in Brazil, the United States, Colombia, Mexico, and Italy.
She serves as scientific director and coolhunter at Modus Marketing and Semiotics, and as director of institutional internationalization and collectibles, as well as an undergraduate and graduate instructor, at the Centro Universitário Belas Artesin Brazil.
Between 2020 and 2022, she was elected by her peers as vice president of design at Instituto by Brasil, the organization responsible for creating the Origen Sostenible certification label. In 2023, she served as a guest curator at Ponte 23, a creative fashion and design festival held in Portugal.
She also received the 2020 Educational Innovation Award from the former School of Communication and Design at Universidad ORT Uruguay the Nexo Atávico project, and she serves as a visiting professor in the university’s School of Design for the annual fashion shows held in July as part of the Fashion Event Design and Production course.

The faculty also counts among its doctoral students Diego Miranda, M.A., the assistant academic coordinator for the bachelor’s degree programs in Animation and Video Games and Multimedia Design, who is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Educationat the Institute of Educationat Universidad ORT Uruguay.
His doctoral thesis explores the use of generative artificial intelligence in graphic design education.
This group also includes Rodolfo Sosa Jacue, an associate professor of Evolution and Design Theory, who is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Education at the Catholic University of Córdoba (Argentina).
His research examines how large private companies in Uruguay manage and evaluate the practical application of the knowledge gained through their programmes .
What is the SNI?
The National System of Researchers (SNI) is an initiative that recognizes and supports research efforts in Uruguay. Through a system of classification and financial incentives, it seeks to promote the generation of knowledge and contribute to the development and strengthening of the country’s scientific community.
The SNI is administered by the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) and has bodies responsible for evaluating and overseeing the system, including an Honorary Commission, a Selection Committee, technical committees by field, and review committees. Since its inception, it has contributed to the development and consolidation of the country’s research community.
