Support for entrepreneurs and links with businesses
In 2001, the university partnered with the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay to establish Ingenio, the country’s first business incubator for IT and telecommunications companies.
In 2007, the School of Engineering continued its efforts by launching the university’s first pre-incubator for technology startups, with the aim of supporting the innovation process through the generation of ideas and the development of economically viable business plans.
In addition, an office was established specifically to strengthen university-business ties, through which the needs of the business community are addressed and solutions are sought based on the knowledge generated at the university.
Building on the experience of the startup pre-incubator and the strengthening of university-industry ties, the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) was established to promote and foster the emergence of new entrepreneurs.
The CIE's initiatives are designed to foster innovation and an entrepreneurial mindset, promote opportunities, and strengthen ties between entrepreneurs and the academic and business communities. In addition to fostering entrepreneurship, the CIE is built on two other key pillars: the development of university-business partnerships and social contribution.
Given its objectives and scope of work, the CIE supports students, entrepreneurs, and organizations to foster knowledge, development, and innovation in each sector.
Building on the network of contacts it has established, the CIE has developed strategic partnerships and innovation projects that contribute to the country’s development, while offering students and graduates the opportunity to develop innovative ideas and turn them into high-potential businesses, thereby fostering the growth of new ventures that create jobs.
