In total, the institution managed 75.4 tons of waste, of which 12.9 tons were recovered through recycling processes.

Notable among the recovered materials are:

  • 9.1 tons of paper and cardboard were donated to Repapel, an organization that reuses these materials to manufacture new recycled paper products and runs educational programs in public schools across the country. This partnership reinforces the social value of recycling by promoting environmental education and inclusion through the work of cooperatives and community workshops.

  • 0.68 tons of PET bottles, processed by Ecopet, the only facility in Uruguay capable of converting plastic containers into food-grade recycled resin (rPET). This process allows the material to be reintroduced into the production cycle, reducing the consumption of virgin resources and associated emissions.

  • 3.13 tons of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), processed by Werba, a company specializing in the management and recycling of such materials. In addition, Werba runs a social inclusion program that involves inmates in disassembly and sorting tasks, providing opportunities for training and reentry into the workforce.

These initiatives confirm that recycling at the university has a positive environmental impact and creates tangible social value, strengthening networks that promote education, inclusion, and the circular economy.
