2024 Agenda
For more than 20 years, ORT Uruguay has been producing a thematic calendar for Rosh Hashanah, typically highlighting notable figures, significant events, and commemorations.
This year, the program pays tribute to the memory of Prof. Charlotte de Grünberg, who served as president of Universidad ORT Uruguay 1977 to 2024.

He played a pivotal role in the educational development of Universidad ORT Uruguay, the country's first private university.
His life, a model of personal growth and tireless dedication to education, leaves an indelible legacy in the educational community and in Uruguayan society.
Charlotte de Grünberg, whose life began in Belgium and was marked by the hardships of the Holocaust, found in Uruguay not only a refuge but also fertile ground in which to cultivate her passion for education.

Our CEO helped us see a way to contribute to the country.
It took the determination of someone (like her) who survived the Holocaust and knew how to inspire us.
A path of service to the country, of building a future for thousands of young people, and of personal fulfillment for many of us.
Today I also want to say to her (the director general): "All of us here pledge to carry on your work and your mission: the mission of educating Uruguayans and bringing modernity to our beloved country."

It is an honor for me to address you on this New Year’s celebration.
Today I am speaking on behalf of myself and my sisters, Victoria and Florencia, who are unable to join us today.
Victoria is currently pursuing a graduate degree abroad, and Florencia is on call as a doctor.
My grandmother always supported both of them, just as she did me.
Below, I will share with you some excerpts from testimonials by people who knew my grandmother and her work.

What better time could there be than this Rosh Hashanah, and what better place than Universidad ORT Uruguay, to celebrate a life—Charlotte’s life.
But it is also, in many ways, a celebration of life.
Because, for those of us who knew her—which I believe includes everyone here, as well as many others—the mere mention of her name is enough to bring her life to mind, and the mere mention of her name in this house illuminates every corner of it and every corner of our souls.

Rosh Hashanah is a holiday that dates back more than 3,300 years and has been observed continuously ever since.
Its nature is both spiritual and liturgical, and its meaning is rooted in both of these aspects.
This holiday marks the beginning of a new annual cycle and serves as an opportunity to reflect on and evaluate our actions over the past year.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Charlotte de Grünberg for her interest in this mural, which we created in Israel some time ago, and to Dr. Jorge Grünberg and ORT, as it is a great honor and a deeply moving experience for us to present and exhibit a work of art in this venue.
This mural is a counterpart to the one in Israel, where we were able to unveil it alongside a group of artists who collaborated with us on this project, which incorporates a number of elements that connect Uruguay and Israel.
