The Paulo Freire + Program offers two types of scholarships:
Junior category
The junior modality involves completing the entire doctoral program in person at a university in another country in the region, which contributes to the creation of strong links between universities (allowing them to share research projects, publications, etc.) and the creation of thematic networks between universities. Students have three years to complete their doctorate in this modality.
Senior Modality
The senior modality allows university professors or researchers to combine their doctoral training with their teaching career and personal life. In this way, doctoral students would only have to be at the host university where they are pursuing their doctorate during the first year of their studies (time to integrate into the research team, define their research topic, and begin their thesis). The other three years they have to complete their doctorate would be spent working on their thesis at their home institution or university, combining this with their teaching work. During these three years, they are expected to spend three-month periods at their host university to continue their research and maintain their links with the research team.
The application period for the scholarships will run from February 2 to June 30, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. (Spanish mainland time).
