MOOC format for lower secondary education

The study—published in volume 39, issue 156, of the journal *Perfiles Educativos*—examines a massive open online course (MOOC) designed for high school students. The course was aimed at building knowledge and developing basic programming skills.

“MOOCs raise new questions and challenges for education,” noted the authors of the article“MOOCs for Lower Secondary Education: Lessons from an Experience.”

In any case, Vaillant, Rodríguez Zidán, and Bernasconi noted that the case they studied demonstrated the potential of MOOCs as a “tool for disseminating knowledge.” This is because they overcome “the limitations of in-person learning” and reduce “the costs of education.”

“Can MOOCs reverse the high dropout rates and lack of interest among students in Latin America’s lower secondary education system?” was one of the questions raised.
