Leaders of the "Shoah: Memory and Legacy of the Holocaust" project presented an award to Universidad ORT Uruguay

June 30, 2008
On June 11, the closing and evaluation meeting for the project "Shoah: Memory and Legacy of the Holocaust" was held. The project consisted of an exhibition held at the Municipal Subway Station in Plaza Fabini from April 14 to June 6, as well as a series of public lectures and a course for secondary school teachers, both of which took place concurrently at Universidad ORT Uruguay. It was declared of National Interest by the Office of the President of the Republic, of Municipal Interest by the Municipality of Montevideo, and of Educational Interest by CODICEN.

On this occasion, the project directors presented Universidad ORT Uruguay with Universidad ORT Uruguay plaque in gratitude for the support provided by its Department of Jewish Studies, which—in addition to the activities mentioned—participated for nearly three years in overseeing the selection and development of the content displayed in the exhibition, as well as in training the young guides, many of whom are students at our university.

The exhibition was visited by more than 35,000 people, and more than 10,000 high school students nationwide received guided tours from young guides specially trained for this purpose.

B’nai B’rith Uruguay and Hillel Uruguay received similar honors for their collaboration in the logistics, organization, and coordination of the project.
