Rubek Orlando shared his experience coordinating visits by various members of the U.S. government to Uruguay over the past few years. In 2008, the Embassy set a record for media coverage, publishing a total of 2,000 articles generated by the Press Office in the national media, surpassing other countries with larger populations and more media outlets in other parts of the world.
His professional career includes the following awards:
- Meritorious Honor Award ( 1990) for coordination and organizational work with the Office of the President of the Republic for President George Bush’s visit.
- Meritorious Honor Award ( 1995) in recognition of the development of a media relations program.
- Meritorious Honor Award ( 1998) in recognition of the implementation of a program to foster relations between the U.S. Embassy and Uruguay’s Ministry of the Interior.
- Franklin Award ( 2002) in recognition of the organization of various press events.
- Broadcasting Award (2001).
- Meritorious Honor Award ( 2003) in recognition of the work carried out by the Press Office of the U.S. Embassy in promoting a positive image of the United States in Uruguay.
- Meritorious Honor Award ( 2004) in recognition of the excellent level of relations with media outlets throughout Uruguay.
- Franklin Award ( 2007) in recognition of the work carried out during President George W. Bush’s visit to Uruguay.
- Tabaré Award for Best Television Documentary Program (2008) for the production of “Las rutas de…” on bilateral trade between Uruguay and the United States of America.
- Superior Honor Award, presented by the U.S. Under Secretary of State in 2008 in recognition of the initiative to develop a series of television programs on bilateral relations.
